Countdown on for Biggest Morning Tea
1 min read

THE Cancer Council will be again hosting its Biggest Morning Tea event at the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club on May 16, with the aim of raising more than $20,000.

The event raised $19,000 for cancer research in 2018, and Cancer Council Gawler branch president Gwenda Green is urging people to donate again this time around.

“100 per cent of what we raise goes to the cause, we all work as volunteers,” she said.

“Because it all goes into research, every dollar we raise is worth $5 through national grant money.

“If we raise $20,000, that’s worth $100,000.

“We need to stay united in our fight to find a cure, and the only way to do that is to keep researching.”

The morning tea event will also feature entertainment headlined by Peter Hutchins, as well as other musical acts, in addition to sweet and savoury delights for sale.

“Tickets are virtually sold out – if people still want to come…ring Jim Downer on 8522 5002 and put your name down if tickets come back up,” Mrs Green said.

“Some of us are re-selling our tickets so we can get those numbers.

“We can only take 350 people legally in a sitting area.”

Mrs Green said a Gawler & District College group will be helping out with the catering, similar to previous years.

“The Gawler 15 hospitality group will also be there again, they’ve done all the savoury cooking and they’ll be waiting on the cooking,” she said.

“There will be plenty of merchandise for sale, and a speaker from head office will be there to tell us what’s happening with research at the Cancer Council.”

A raffle will also be available on the day – first place is a cash prize of $750 from Elders Real Estate, second is $250 from Millard Conveyancing, and third is $100 from Pauline R. Murray Accounting & Taxation.

The event will get under way from 10am and tickets are $12.
