Connect the communities

PLAYFORD councillors are pushing for a continuation of the upgrade of Stebonheath Road following the completion of works at the Andrews Farm end.

Councillor Clint Marsh is eager to see the work continue, which has seen footpaths, drainage and kerbing improve.

“The purpose of this Stebonheath Road upgrade is over the long-term plan of the City of Playford in delivering a singular road upgrade, starting from one end, which is Andrews Farm, through to the growth area of Munno Para West,” he said.

“That road is currently a country-style road, where it has open drains, no kerbing, minimal footpaths and no lighting and the long-term approach, while not definite, it’d be a stage upgrade over many years to bring that into alignment.

“It’s about connecting the communities to one another, stop having pathways to nowhere and linking the growth area.

“I’d say in Munno Para West, they want a lot more footpaths and drainage, because it’s a well-established area.

“It’s a good start here, but let’s head north.

“There will be more land development coming, so let’s bring the infrastructure in first.”

Newly-appointed Deputy Mayor Peter Rentoulis said it’s a welcome addition to the area.

“I think this would be very welcome to the area because people complain that we don’t invest in basic core services, infrastructure, drainage, roads, that’s what the rate payers want and expect,” he said.

“It’s another delivered project, which is very good.”

Furthermore, councillors are also keen to see pressure on Curtis Road alleviated through the extension of Newton Boulevard onto Stenbonheath Road.

“With Newton Boulevard, the key for that, when they were advocating it they were so many positives and need for it, because you have a lot of kids that go to school, they can bypass through there rather than go onto Curtis Road,” Councillor Cathy-Jo Tame said.

“It’s a nightmare on Curtis Road around school times, a lot of people would use Newton Boulevard to reduce the congestion.”
