Help to make this year’s Show one to remember

YOUNG people are being encouraged to put their hand up for a role on the Gawler Show’s Youth Team.

The Youth Team makes an important contribution to the annual show event, organising and running the popular Treasure Trail and helping Nixon the Show mascot make it around the showgrounds on Show weekend.

The team is also a hub of conversation and initiative that brings a youthful influence to how the event on November 20-21 event is run.

Youth Team chair and Gawler Show committee member Isiah Tesselaar said the team was on the lookout for new members, having experienced a drop because of last year’s cancelled event.

“The youth team has given structure to a lot of the volunteers that used to be involved with the Show,” he said.

“We now have something to work towards with the treasure trail and Nixon, as well as it’s a good place to meet other people interested in supporting the community.”

Mr Tesselaar, who has been on the team since it was founded in 2014, as well as a long-time volunteer, said it was a rewarding experience.

“The Gawler Show is the largest event we have in Gawler and there is always a lot of buzz around it,” he said.

“Getting to be involved in the background and seeing some of the work that goes in to seeing it go ahead, is a real benefit.

“As well as being able to say, you’ve been a part of this.”

Membership in the Youth Team is open to people between 14 and 25.

Anyone interested in finding out more is encouraged to contact the Gawler Show office on Facebook or on 8523 1477.

Meetings are usually held monthly on a Thursday evening.
