Barossans celebrate Australia Day
1 min read

THE Barossa Council has welcomed 12 new Australian citizens at its Australia Day ceremony on Tuesday.

New citizens from Taiwan to Poland made the affirmation to a quiet ceremony due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Barossa Mayor Bim Lange said the day was a time to reflect on how tough 2020 was.

“We can pause to reflect on the past year and come together and recognise the resilience of our community and our people,” he said.

“The courage, the selflessness of those who work on the front line, whether it be floods, fires or the global pandemic.

“Today, it gives me great pleasure to be involved in a citizenship ceremony.

“Today we also come together and celebrate the achievements of those people in our local community who give so much to our community.”

Dr Bill Gransbury also received his Citizen of the Year award, while Tia Atze was the Young Citizen of the Year.

The 100 Barossa Artists and 10 Barossa Digital Artists event took out Community Event of the Year, while the Barossa Cares website was the Community Project of the Year.
