JANET DAY
SANDY Creek finished off the home and away season with a perfect record after defeating St George’s by 31 goals in Gawler & District A-grade netball on Saturday.
Whilst the Cockies were only ahead by 10 goals at halftime, the tight defensive work of Celeste Collinson and Danielle Penfold only allowed St George’s to score two more goals for the game.
The Sandy Creek goalies, in contrast, notched another 24 with their precise shooting.
Kasey Korbely and Brooke Phelps tried in earnest in defence for St George’s.
Meanwhile, Virginia easily accounted for Gumnuts by 22 goals, which has been plagued by injury this season.
Virginia was strong at both ends of the court, with Grace Nicol playing an excellent game supported by Emily Bryant.
Now at full strength, Virginia can be considered a threat to the Sandy Creek sides.
Finally, Xavier Saints doubled the score of its opponent Lutheran, winning by 27 goals.
Despite the loss, Lutheran never relinquished and continued to play with team spirit.
Jessica Dunkeld and Ellisha Scordo were amazing in goals for the Saints and Vicky Menelaou was solid in defence.
Sharla O’Neil and Hannah Winter played consistently for Lutheran.
