JANET DAY

SANDY Creek comfortably secured its second consecutive Gawler & District A-grade netball premiership, after defeating Virginia by 30 goals in Saturday’s grand final.

The Cockies jumped out to a 10-goal lead in the first quarter with impressive shooting from Jenny Dyson and Alyssa Wilson.

The Virginia goalies struggled in the circle as Sandy Creek defender Nicole Tucker was having an incredible day on the court, keeping the opposition side to only nine goals in the second term.

At half-time, the score was 31- 14 in the Cockatoos’ favour. Both teams made changes for the second half – Lamont was returned to goals for Virginia, and Dyson to keeper for Sandy Creek.

Virginia centre Amber Vidovich was encouraging her side to chase for the ball, but it trailed by 20 at three-quarter-time.

Both teams played at full pace for the entire game and were encouraged by an amazing crowd of spectators, but the Cockies emerged as victors by 30 goals.

Paula White was dominant from start to finish at wing defence and deservedly was awarded best on court.

Meanwhile, United was victorious in B grade against Virginia by 17 goals.

Virginia struggled to get back into the game after being down by nine goals in the first quarter.

United ran out 48-31 victors. United goal shooter Erin Roe was awarded best on court.

Elsewhere, Gumnuts defeated Xavier Saints Green by five goals.

Lulu Lange was best on court, despite playing for the defeated Saints.

Lastly, the 16 & under grand final was the closest match of the day.

Gumnuts was six goals behind at the last break, and the efforts of goal attack Kayla McInerney just about got them within reach of levelling the score with Trinity.

However, it was not to be and Trinity ran out winners 38-37.

McInerney was later rewarded with best on court.
