SANDY Creek guaranteed its finals position with a 43-15 goal win over Gumnuts in Gawler & District A-grade netball on Saturday.

Gumnuts started well defensively but struggled to contain the Cockatoos, who led by six goals at quarter-time.

Sandy Creek found its groove in the second term and the score line blew out to 22-4 at halftime.

With the win firmly within reach, the Cockatoos held strong until the last whistle.

Despite finals being out of reach for the Gumnuts side, it kept its heads high and never dropped the pressure throughout the game.

The combination of Paula White and Brooke Barnes for Sandy Creek was instrumental in the win.

Meanwhile, Virginia took on St George’s and won comfortably.

Virginia put on a spectacular display of strength on court, showing its experience as a team.

Amber Vidovich was at her usual best in centre for Virginia, and provided effortless movement down the court.

Hayley Trimboli was relentless in defence, keeping the St George’s shooters to nine goals for the game.

An early injury in the second quarter shook the St George’s side, but it never gave up.

However, it was unable to sustain the pressure that was needed to keep Virginia down, losing 9-57.

In the remaining A-grade game, Lutheran tried its best for all four quarters but succumbed to Sandy Creek Green, which won by 29 goals.

Green hit the ground running, getting off to an early six-goal lead in the first quarter.

A swap around in the centre court for Lutheran did little to alter the momentum Green had gained and continued to build until the last whistle.

Sharla O’Neill kept spirits high in the centre court for Lutheran and tried her best to keep her side in the game, however Green sustained longer periods of play and ran away with a 49-20 win.
