1 min read

ICONIC community hub the Gawler Civic Centre is in the running for a national award recognising outstanding achievements in planning.

The Planning Institute of Australia’s (PIA) National Awards for Planning Excellence will be virtually celebrated tomorrow night during an online presentation.

Gawler Mayor Karen Redman expressed council’s excitement at the local facility being recognised on both a state and national level.

“Regardless of the outcome it is a great achievement in itself,” she said.

“We should all be proud that a local project is on the national stage.

“It’s a fabulous reflection of the work we have been doing here at Gawler and the progress of our community to be able to deliver such an amazing facility.

“The best of Gawler’s past will form a foundation for its future, steeped in heritage and tradition which will not be compromised.”

Officially opened on Sunday, April 7, 2019, Ms Redman said the Civic Centre had put Gawler ‘on the map’.

“The nomination puts Gawler on a national stage in respect to project conception, delivery and success,” she said.

“The Civic Centre project demonstrates what can be achieved when we work together and think big.

“Our town is growing, our region is becoming more attractive to business and residents alike, so projects such as the Civic Centre contribute to the long-term success of our region and a community overall.”

Ms Redman encouraged locals to view the proceedings by registering online at: (www.planning.org.au/events/event/2020-PIA-National-Awards).

The awards take place this Thursday, September 24 from 5pm to 6pm.
