KAPUNDA star Penny Chappell took home the highest individual honour in the Barossa, Light & Gawler Netball Association, the senior one best and fairest award.

The Bombers centre has again had a terrific year, helping her side to a minor premiership and on Sunday a grand final against Barossa District.

Despite claiming the individual honour, Chappell said it was a “team award”.

“I’m very surprised, we have a very even team,” she said.

“Everyone contributes equally.”

Chappell’s side went 16-0 throughout the home and away season, and while she admitted it was a significant achievement, she said it means nothing if they can’t perform on Sunday.

“It’s good but it doesn’t really mean anything when you get to the finals, you just have to be the best team on the day.”

Chappell is a finals veteran, and said she keeps preparing for grand final day down to the basics.

“Just need to focus on what you need to do, and focusing on the team as well,” she said.

“It’s good when we have plenty of good support to take that role.

“You can only do so much, hopefully it turns out the way you want it to.”

In senior two, Gawler Central’s Shelby Smith took out the award from Nuriootpa’s Sally Fromm and team-mate Morghan Earl.

There was a two-way tie in the senior three award, with Angaston’s Abbie Staniford and Gawler Central’s Zahra Schumacher claiming the trophies.

In senior four, Kapunda’s Sarah Johnson secured the best and fairest by three votes from Gawler Central’s Renee Brooks.

In a tight count in senior five, Gawler Central’s Joleen Scheepens beat out South Gawler’s Caitlin Williams and Kareena Yates by a vote.

It was a three-way tie in senior six dominated by the Gawler clubs, with Gawler Central’s Stacey Rosenzweig, South Gawler’s Kelly Donnelly and Willaston’s Rebecca Holliday winning the award on eight votes each.

In senior seven, Angaston’s Chelsea Parbs took home the best and fairest.

Barossa District’s senior one side dominated the goal-throwing to take home the senior goal-throwing trophy.

Finally, Barossa District dominated the team of the year, with Lisa Wilson, Jess Wilson and Zoe Hoffrichter featuring alongside Kapunda’s Tab MacKenzie and Penny Chappell, South Gawler’s Aimee Feltham and Bec Brading, Gawler Central’s Erin Scheepens and Ali Schahinger and Nuriootpa’s Nicole Bruce-Gordon.
