Central steps around Nuri

GAWLER Central returned to the winners’ list, knocking off Nuriootpa by 25 points in Barossa, Light & Gawler reserves football on Saturday at the Dog Track.

The hosts got off to the perfect start and led by 16 points at quarter-time.

The visitors were wasteful in front of goal and kicked 1.10 for the match, their only major coming in the final term.

Daniel Burgess kicked Nuri’s sole goal in the loss.

Meanwhile, Willaston kept its slim finals hopes alive, defeating Barossa District by 47 points.

The Donnybrooks were terrific, led by Max Bornholdt who kicked four majors.

Elsewhere, South Gawler crushed bottom side Freeling by 70 points.

The Lions were wasteful early, and had kicked 4.11 to half-time to the Legs’ two points.

Brenton Craig was far and away South’s best, kicking five goals, while Ben Washington was serviceable with a major.

Louis McKenna and Corey Coleman both kicked goals for the Redlegs.

Finally, Tanunda overcame Kapunda by 33 points.

Liam Ellis was the only multiple goal-kicker for the Magpies, booting two.

Under 17

Nuriootpa eased past Gawler Central by 65 points.

Ben Roennfeldt kicked four snags, while Nelson Dahlenberg, Charlie Nolan, Hugh Evans and Mason Graetz all added two in the dominant performance.

Meanwhile, Willaston overcame Barossa District in a thriller by two points.

The Bulldogs trailed by 43 points at half-time, but kicked eight goals to one thereafter to fall agonisingly short of what would have been a stunning victory.

Nathan Dyer sparked the Dogs’ resurgence with five goals, while Tyson Lane added two.

Deakin Davis slotted two for the Donnybrooks.

Elsewhere, South Gawler smashed Freeling by 78 points.

Cody Gilchrist, Cooper Pugliese and Jordan Russell kicked three goals each for the Lions.

Lastly, Tanunda defeated Kapunda by 38 points.

Tanunda’s Ashtyn Steinert moved to the top of the leading goal-kicker rankings with six of his side’s 11 goals.

Under 15

Nuriootpa made short work of Gawler Central by 43 points.

Tom Giles was best on ground for Nuri, booting four majors, while Declan Whelan performed well for Central.

Barossa District also had a comfortable win, thumping Willaston by 56 points.

Will O’Brien was again sensational for the Dogs and finished with four goals, while Lachlan Reynolds was the Donnybrooks’ best.

Similarly, South Gawler defeated Freeling by 32 points.

Zac Piddington was ever-present for the victors, kicking two goals, while Dillan Blown also kicked a major.

Finally, Tanunda dismantled Kapunda by 70 points.

Hamish Martin was the start of the day, slotting three majors.
