Carlin comes up big as Trinity claims gold
1 min read

LIAM PHILLIPS
COMPETING against the
top eight track-and-field
schools in the state, the
Trinity College’s team
won two of the three SSSA
A-grade championship titles.
Trinity finished on 362
points to finish 35 clear of
Mercedes College to win
the boys’ division, and
came third in the girls on
317 points behind Immanuel
College (360) and St Peter’s
Girls (331).
The strong performance in
both divisions meant Trinity
also won the combined title
on 679 points, in front of Immanuel
College on 650.
It is Trinity’s third combined
win in the past four
SSSA A-grade championships
– only falling short in
2019.
In a terrific individual performance,
year 12 student
and boys’ athletics captain
Jett Carlin achieved a world
junior qualifier for the hammer
throw. Carlin has been
aiming for the result all season,
and to achieve it before
the Australian National Titles
at Sydney Olympic Park
– which started earlier this
week – indicates he is in very
strong form.
Unfortunately, elite javelin
thrower Alanah Gregory sustained
a serious injury while
competing in another event,
which means that she had to
miss the Australian National Titles.
