GAWLER’S Country Women’s Association has treated the town to its home-made treats and crafts.

The CWA bracnh – which is celebrating its 80th birthday – ran a successful Mother’s Day Market Stall, under the veranda of Gawler’s Drakes Supermarket, on Saturday, raising more than $800.

The event was part of the official program of the Adelaide Food Fringe, which aims to support, market and celebrate the state’s food and beverage businesses, venues, clubs, producers, multicultural communities and cultural institutions.

The statewide festival runs until May 16, and will also see the Brewer’s Shout initiative come to the Exchange Hotel on Saturday evening.

Presented by Pirate Life Brewing, and as part of international Pub Week, the event will include the chance to “meet the brewer”, learn about the beer and taste a schooner of one of Pirate Life’s finest for free.

Adelaide Food Fringe director Vic Pisani said he was ecstatic by the level of interest in the festival considering last year’s event was derailed by COVID-19.

“It’s no secret festivals and the hospitality industry did it tough last year, so we see our exciting return as more evidence of green shoots for both our industries rising out of dark times,” he said.

“As for the line-up, it’s truly a festival for the people by the people as it’s 100 per cent curated by your locals and friends that registered their events and ideas.

“There’s a massive variety of events on offer right across the state, and I know it’s a festival director cliche, but there’s honestly something for everyone of any age, interest and budget.”
