KAPUNDA veteran Stacey Burgess said she ‘rarely thinks of netball’ despite preparing for another grand final this Saturday against Barossa District.
The Bombers star was a vital part of the club’s last success in 2016, where they defeated South Gawler, and featured in the club’s losing grand final in 2017 to the Bulldogs.
However, with a young family, Burgess said she has a healthy distraction away from the sport.
“So far I’m going well (this week),” she said.
“It’s still a week away, so I’ll worry about it on Thursday night at training.
“When you’ve got a young family, you’re busy.
“You don’t get time to think about grand finals, you just need to get organised and make sure you’re there on time.
“It’s probably a distraction, I don’t think about netball until I have to, otherwise I would worry too much.”
Burgess, alongside Penny Chappell and Tab MacKenzie have been regular features of the Bombers’ senior one outfit for years, but said seeing the next group of Kapunda stars coming through has been great.
“The growth of our club has been really good overall,” she said.
“We have a few young girls in Chloe Dabrowski, Sam Matthews and Ella Mickan.
“It’s almost time for me to go down a grade, which would be nice.”
Burgess will be seeking her third premiership throughout her career, but admitted she’s lost track of how many finals and grand finals she has participated in throughout her illustrious career.
