Bulldogs rue missed chances
1 min read

CENTRAL District blew a chance to get
back into the finals hunt by going down to
Port Adelaide by nine points in the SANFL
at Elizabeth on Saturday.
The Bulldogs blew three chances while in
control of the game in the opening term, kicking
three behinds before the Magpies drew first
blood. Miller Carter opened the goal tally before
Dylan Williams made it two in a row for
the visitors.
Yet, as he has done all season, Aiden Grace got
busy and kicked two successive goals to ensure
the Dogs led at the first break by three points.
The second quarter was a grind for both sides,
with Centrals maintaining most of the control.
Chris Olsson was the sole goalkicker and the
Dogs’ lead extended to 10 points at half-time.
The Bulldogs continued to struggle in front
of goals and Port capitalised through a Joel
Garner roost from 50 metres out.
Nick Gillard responded with a major of his
own before Jackson Mead in his returning
game for Port made the margin just eight points
at the final break.
The Magpies then wrestled control in the final
term, starting with Boyd Woodcock.
Fraser Fort then steadied the ship temporarily
before Ollie Lord got it back for Port.
Zak Butters then took control, goaling from a
drop punt before Jake Weidemann snapped out
of the pack to make it 10 points.
Grace cut it back and the Dogs had a pulse
before Butters put the final nail in the coffin.
Travis Schiller had 26 disposals, while Jarrod
Schiller had 19.
