BAROSSA District extended its perfect
start to the Barossa, Light & Gawler Netball
Association season to 5-0 with a 64-24
win at Freeling on Saturday.
While its record is deserving of top spot
on the table, Barossa District is yet to run the
gauntlet against the other perennial finalists,
with games against Gawler Central, Kapunda,
and South Gawler coming in the next three
weeks.
Bulldogs coach Robyn Crack said she was
proud of her side’s execution and work rate in
a game it entered as heavy favourites.
“We just wanted to play our game,” she
said.
“We knew if we focus on our processes and
the things we work on, the result would take
care of itself, and that’s what happened.”
With a couple Senior 1 players out for the
week, Crack said she used the opportunity to
give some deserving Senior 2s a good run.
“Piper Riggs came up and played wing attack
for us, and we had Alex Lang made her
debut in goal keeper,” she said.
“They were good – they came in a little
slowly, but that’s to be expected because even
coming up from Senior 2s it’s a very difference
pace, and the physicality is at another
level as well.
“But halfway through the first quarter they
both got their eyes in and did a good job.
“Lucia Eastwood was probably our best on
the day – she played defence and got a lot of
intercepts for us, and created a few more for
our backs to get as well.
“Coby Rodda was great running through
centre as well, controlling everything down
the court.”
