BAROSSA District flexed its muscles with a 31-point win over Tanunda in Barossa Light & Gawler A-grade action on Saturday.
The bank was opened for Barossa with Leigh Ryswyk quickly booting one through, followed by teammate Jack Carpenter for a quick one-two punch from the Dogs.
After some struggle, Brett Dowse of Tanunda lit up the scoreboard with a major of his own, and the good work continued with a nice mark and set shot by Joshua Trembath.
However, the Dogs maintained the initial momentum, with Ethan Gant and Adam Spencer snagging first-period goals, before the quarter was capped off with a terrific running goal from Ryswyk.

The second quarter opened in a similar fashion for Barossa District, with Daniel Kickel selling some candy before handing it off to Darren Shillabeer to boot his first of the afternoon.
The Pies quickly recuperated with Trembath showing mid-air dominance to bang in his second set shot. This provided some much-needed inspiration for the visitors, with Benjamin Schiller getting in on the action and snapping one through.
Darcy Hamon continued pressing forward with an impressive high-flying grab, which led to Trembath kicking his third. Tanunda had closed the gap to three points heading into half-time.

After the main break Barossa regained control, with Shillabeer pummeling the footy with a long-range set shot. Gant then snapped another major after a chain of quick and accurate handballs between the Barossa forwards.
After a back-and-forth arm wrestle with goals from both sides, Trembath bombed through his fourth goal to end the third term.

In the last, Schiller lifted early on for Tanunda with a high-pressure set shot goal, but Shillabeer swung the pendulum back into the Dog’s favour with both a soccer goal, and a set shot from mid-range.
Ryswyk ultimately sealed the deal with a late game snap, making the final score 15.11 (101) to 10.10 (70).

After the game, Barossa District coach Shayne Stevens was happy with the performance of his team, but acknowledged the areas in need of improvement.
“We played four quarters of footy and were able to keep our intensity for 100 minutes,” he said.
“Our skills were a lot better this week, and we were able to keep our tackling pressure up for longer periods.
“We need to keep working on our consistency…so that we don’t let the opposition kick easy goals against us.
“We are starting to gel, as we are a young group with a lot of new players that are beginning to find their feet in senior football”.
