IT was a great start to the Barossa,
Light & Gawler Football Association
senior colts season for
Barossa District, opening its account
with a 12.7 (79) to 1.4 (16)
away win at Angaston.
Nathan Dyer kicked three goals
for a Bulldogs side that wasn’t
troubled after quarter time, only
conceding one goal in each half.
South Gawler is also off to a winning
start with a more hard-fought
9.13 (67) to 7.6 (48) win at Nuriootpa
after managing to snag a couple
of goals against the wind in the
final quarter.
Kane Materne kicked three goals
for the Tigers, while Zac Piddington
slotted through three of his own
to finish the round in a three-way
tie with Dyer in the goal kicking
standings.
The tightest game of the round
was won by Willaston, which defended
its home field with a 6.6
(42) to 5.7 (37) victory against
Gawler Central.
With the score separated by just
one point at both quarter time and
three-quarter time, the Donnybrooks
kicked the only goal of the
final term to sneak home with a
great win.
Rounding out senior colt action,
Tanunda comfortably handled Kapunda
with eight different goal
kickers getting their names on the
Magpies’ score sheet in the 10.11
(71) to 2.5 (17) win.
In junior colts, Angaston won
a low-scoring struggle against
Barossa District 2.5 (17) to 1.6 (12)
thanks to goals from Kaleb White
and Hartley Eggleton.
Nuriootpa was able to hang on
for a 7.7 (49) to 5.3 (33) win against
South Gawler after the Tigers took
a 25-1 lead into quarter time and
were never headed.
Tanunda wrapped up a great
day for the club with a 9.9 (63) to
1.5 (11) beating of Kapunda, with
Mason Feltus and Ryan Lane-Ellis
kicking three goals each, while Jett
Assender bagged a pair.
Three goals from Gawler Central’s
Oscar King proved the difference
against Willaston, winning
7.10 (52) to 5.4 (34) in a back-andforth
contest which saw the lead
change hands at each break before
the Tigers came home with the
wind and the result.
