Bright performances in tough conditions

IN hot and muggy conditions on Friday, Gawler River’s Jack Williams-trained Reddy Red managed to break its maiden in its fourth start after reeling in the fast-starters late in the piece.
The maiden race, run over 400m, didn’t look to be Reddy Red’s at the start with Cackles, trained by Lewiston’s Troy Murray, taking the lead and being clear down the back straight.
Another Clanger, trained by Lewiston’s Don Turner, took Cackles on but failed to go past, opening the door for Reddy Red to sneak up the inside rail to take the lead down the home straight for its first win in a time of 23.43seconds.
It was an important step forward for the greyhound in its fourth start, having run two thirds and a fifth previously showing the ability to consistently stay in the thick of things.
Race seven, also over 400m, was a well-run race that saw Sutton Heidi, trained by Angela Modra of Gawler River, take the early lead by jumping well from box-one.
The lead was short-lived, though, as Shocked made a move around the final turn and took a rails run, while Sutton Heidi moved off the track.
This allowed Shocked, trained by Kim Johnstone of Two Wells, to take out the race by 2.5 lengths in a time of 23.44seconds.
