KAPUNDA won its ninth successive match by defeating Gawler Central by two goals in Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball on Saturday.
The Bombers started well against the young Tigers and shot away to a six-goal lead at quarter-time.
Central found its way back into the game and cut the deficit to just four goals at the main change.
Kapunda’s experience did shine through in the third quarter, and it ultimately proved to be the difference, as the lead extended back out to five goals.
The Tigers fought hard, but fell just short, going down to the competition’s best side by just two goals.
Despite a losing result, Central coach Reece Turtur was pleased with the performance.
“I think overall it was an exciting, high quality match by both sides,” he said.
“In the end, both teams won a half each and it was coming down to that final quarter and who could hold composure, and unfortunately it was a turnover off a centre pass that cost us in the end.
“I think it gives us real belief that we can match it with the top sides.
“I’m not disappointed at all, I think it was a great game.”
Turtur was also pleased to heap praise on his whole side.
“Ali Schahinger had a great game in defence, Kapunda has a great attacking side, so we had to do some work to contain them,” he said.
“Her work rate in defence and the work she was doing in bringing the ball out was instrumental in our play,
“Jodie Rich-Nourse was outstanding in attack, she played goal attack in the first half and we moved her into wing attack in the second half which opened the doors up.
“I think Erin Scheepens had a good game against Penny (Chappell), those two cancelled each other out.”
