MURRAY Bridge greyhound trainer Greg Board followed up his double at Gawler last week with an even more impressive result on Friday.

Bringing six greyhounds to the track Board had a fantastic day out, heading home with four winners and two second placings.

Getting the ball rolling was Spring Scout, winning the 400m juvenile event in 23.06 seconds with a margin in hand of one-and-a-quarter lengths.

The second winner came in a grade six event over 400m, where Spring Poldark won after leading all the way in a good time of 22.90 seconds.

The next two winners were the same dogs that saluted last week, and continued with their good form.

The first of these was Spring Cobra, winning the 531m mixed grade four/five race after being forced back to the rear of the field.

Using good sense to rail through the field, Spring Cobras was able to make ground quickly, and then settling mid-field, slowly worked his way past the leader to go on and win by two lengths in 31.09 seconds.

The final win came in the grade five 400m event, when Spring Halo got away well to power clear from the opposition and run a quick 22.58 seconds, giving his rivals a difficult target to catch and winning by nearly five lengths.

Board not only trains the quartet, but also owns and breeds them.

All of his greyhounds use the prefix ‘Spring’, which comes from his previous abode at Spring Hill NSW, where all the dogs are reared.

Board has an interesting history in his life before a trainer when he was heavily involved in rodeo events, and in 1974 he was the Australasian Bull Riding Champion.

With that sport being rough and tough, he said the injuries made him slow down a bit, and he had coincidently been introduced to greyhound racing by some friends who took him to the track, which put him on the path to where he is now.

The Gawler Gold Cup will be held this year on Sunday, October 25 as a twilight meeting, but in the meantime races will continue every Friday (except October 23) and Tuesday.
