Blundell’s big battle
1 min read

HE’S faced the best ruckmen in country football this year, but Willaston tall Scott Blundell is thriving in his new A-grade spot.
The 22-year-old started the year in the reserves, but has become a regular and consistent feature in the Donnybrooks’ senior side, battling against former SANFL ruckmen; Angaston’s Marc Borholm,
Freeling’s Adam Cockshell, Barossa District’s Todd Miles and on Saturday, South Gawler’s Jack Osborn.
Despite lacking the experience and size on the Barossa, Light & Gawler’s best big men, Blundell has backed himself in.
“It’s been pretty good, just taking the straps one game at a time, settling in a bit more with the guys,” he said.
“They’ve been very tough to beat, they have the upper weight and upper body to push me out.
“But with my vertical leap I try my best to get over the top of them.
“It’s definitely a class above.”
After one game in the reserves, Blundell was named to take on Angaston and had to go up against former Woodville-West Torrens gun, Borholm.
“He’s pretty tough, I was amazed that he could run, he’s such a big bloke, you think you can outrun them,” he said.
However, he said his toughest test has been a former Port Adelaide AFL player.
“I’d say Borholm (would be the toughest) but (Adam) Cockshell, if he was fitter after his hamstring, I’d say he’d be tougher,” he said.
Speaking to The Bunyip on Thursday, Blundell said he was looking forward to going up against South Gawler player-coach Jack Osborn.
“I’ll back myself in, I haven’t seen him myself, and I’ll try to be my best,” he said.
“(Willaston coach Shaun) Baker has said to keep doing the same thing, I’m playing good footy at the moment and featuring in the best and to be that fourth midfielder.”
