BLGW stages Origin battles
1 min read

THE Barossa, Light & Gawler women’s football competition finished off its year with the inaugural ‘Region of Origin’ match between the league’s North and South sides at Tanunda Oval on Sunday.

The North side, comprising players from Kapunda, Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Angaston, won the series – which was played as a best of three competition across all grades – after the under 14 and
under 17 sides easily accounted for the South junior teams.

However, it was a different story in the seniors, as a mostly united Barossa District and Willaston side was terrific for the South, crushing the North.

The game was almost marred by what was thought to be a gruesome broken leg to Kapunda’s Ella Mickan during a collision with an opponent, with both team-mates and opponents calling to the bench for assistance.

However, those in attendance were relieved to learn it was just an aggressive cramp.

South Gawler’s Tegan Nottle was named best on ground, while Barossa’s Alana White and Willaston’s Sarah-Jane Jameson found the goals.

Following the match, the Gawler RSL Medal was handed out to the best and fairest player across the entire 2019 BLGW season, with Angaston’s Emma Keys and Willaston’s Shari Chambers tying for the award.
