BL&GW contenders make presence felt
1 min read

CONTENDERS Angaston and Tanunda both took strong wins against Barossa District and Gawler Central respectively in a double header hosted by Gawler Central on Sunday.
On a great day for football and with plenty of support in the stands from the Tigers’ men’s teams, Angaston got a bit of a shock in the opening game of the day as it went into quarter time down 0.3 (3) to 1.0 (6) as the Dogs’ Alana White capitalised on her side’s only chance.
The Panthers’ dominated play in the second, barely allowing Barossa District inside-50 while snagging two goals to swing the margin back in its favour, 15-6 at halftime.
The Dogs were determined to make it a game as the sides both put another goal on the board in the third term, but the fourth was a great display from the Panthers, kicking four goals straight, while Ruby McDonald kicked her first for Barossa to finish the game 7.5 (47) to 3.0 (18).
Gawler Central had its first home game of the season in the second leg of the double-header, and despite taking a 2.3 (15) to 10.9 (69) beating from Tanunda, the Tigers will take positives from the day.
Having kicked just two goals through the first three rounds, the Tigers scored more points in one game than it had all season, with returning Central District player Emma Keys getting on the scoresheet and contributing strongly throughout.
Despite all the positivity with the Tigers’ growth, Tanunda took the opportunity to make a statement and take advantage of their less-experienced opposition, jumping out of the gates to lead 21-2 at quarter time.
The visitors played an attacking, aggressive brand of footy all day, with key forward Jessica Scott capitalising with the season’s first five-goal bag as the intensity dropped slightly in the second half when the game was in hand.
In the under 17s, Angaston and Willaston confirmed their status as likely grand-finalists with 43-0 and 51-12 wins against Kapunda and Barossa District respectively.
