SOUTH Gawler continued its excellent season as a club with a dominant 15.14 (104) to 5.1 (31) home win against previously undefeated Nuriootpa in Barossa Light & Gawler senior colts action.
Thomas Clements kicked a bag of six for the hosts as the Lions turned a 24-19 first quarter lead into a blowout – only conceding two scoring shots after quarter time.
Angaston pulled itself to 2-2 with a convincing win against Tanunda behind a strong performance from young key forward Mitchell Carter, kicking two goals and making his presence felt in below-average conditions. The Panthers didn’t concede a goal in the first half on its way to a 7.5 (47) to 2.4 (16) win.
Gawler Central remained winless after a 2.5 (17) to 12.9 (81) drubbing at the hands of Barossa District, with Dogs William Seed (three goals), Luke Hajdu (two goals), Nathan Dyer (two goals) and Xander Bates (one goal, best-on-ground) performing the heavy lifting.
Willaston is the only 4-0 side after four rounds after it left Kapunda 6.12 (48) to 2.3 (15) winners.
Tahjin Krieg was the only multiple-goal scorer on the day as the Donnybrooks were wasteful in front of goal, while Luke Euing got on the scoreboard for Kapunda, and Jacob Heintze was named the Bombers’ best.
In junior colts Nuriootpa got one back on the board at South Gawler behind three goals apiece from Tom Giles and Kane Materne on the way to a 10.3 (63) to 2.4 (16) win. The win takes the Tigers to 4-0 and one of two remaining undefeated sides.
The other, Barossa District, dominated Gawler Central to a tune of 11.10 (76) to 1.1 (7). A1 cricketer Will O’Brien showed he’s more than a batsman as he bagged seven goals to pull into a tie with Nuri’s Tom Giles for the league goal kicking lead.
Willaston moved to 0-4 after not scoring a goal until the fourth quarter of its game at Kapunda, losing 1.3 (9) to 5.3 (33). Cameron Wall was named best for the Bombers, with the side’s five goals all coming from different scorers.
Tanunda overcame poor finishing – going into halftime with 0.5 – to climb over Angaston late and win 3.6 (24) to 2.1 (13). The result leaves both teams inside the top four in a wide-open competition.
Despite struggling in the colts, Gawler Central’s under-13s are roaring after a 5.5 (35) to 1.1 (7) win over Barossa District moved them to a perfect 4-0, with only one game even being close. Anthony Katianos-Nemes was the Tigers’ only multi-goal kicker.
Angaston Blue will be its main threat, as it pumped Tanunda 11.8 (74) to 1.3 (9) thanks to five goals from Kaleb White, and three from Jordan Rosenzweig.
Angaston White, on the other hand, was taught a lesson by Freeling as it went down 0.3 (3) to 8.10 (58).
Kapunda and Willaston slogged it out with the former winning 4.4 (28) to 1.1 (7)
in a wet-weather showdown with only 10 scoring shots all game. Bomber Angus Jenner kicked two goals for the home side, while Ethan Siddall was the lone scorer for the Donnybrooks.
South Gawler and Nuriootpa battled to a nail-biting 2.4 (16) to 2.7 (19) slug fest, with Lion Cade Halliday and Tiger Joshua Reichelt both kicking their side’s only two goals.
