GAWLER Eagles continued their
march up the State League 2 ladder with
Saturday’s home 1-0 win against Modbury
Vista, with super signing Thomas
Berg netting another goal, making it 10
in 10 games since joining the club.
It was an arm-wrestle early, with the
sides reaching halftime still locked in a
0-0 stalemate, before Berg was able to
score the game’s only goal in the 58th
minute when Musa Fofana found some
space on the edge of the box, before slipping
a nice ball through for Berg to finish.
Eagles coach Andrew Burgess said
it was a much different contest to the
first time these sides met. “Last time we
played Vista we drew 3-3 in a very attacking
game,” he said.
“This time, though, we started on the
front foot from the very start, attacking
time after time and coming close on a
number of occasions, but just couldn’t
finishing our smart build up play.
“Our defence, led by Omar Hassan and
fellow veteran Christian Taylor, completely
held Vista at bay. Young Lionnel
put (Ibrahim Bigirimana), the Vista forward,
in his back pocket all day.
“It as a well-deserved 1-0 lead. Chance
after chance came after – we could not
finish them off, but overall I’m very
pleased with the boys.”
