Baseball prepares to ramp back up
1 min read

ALTHOUGH COVID-19 has played a part in frustrating the preparation of the new season, there is plenty of excitement around the Gawler Rangers Baseball Club going forward.
With restrictions on import players, Gawler is expected to be more than competitive with the established clubs, although its top team will remain in division two.
Mike McClarty has again been appointed club coach, with a finals berth a real possibility in the coming season, as the Rangers look at preparing to enter division one ranks for 2021/22.
Many of last season’s players are expected to return, while there has been some interest in the club from others currently playing elsewhere, including former junior players from the Rangers.
Pre-season training for seniors starts Sunday, August 2, at Karbeethan Reserve from 10am until midday, with anyone aged 17-or-over welcome to come and try the sport of baseball.
There will be up to four senior sides, depending on numbers, to cater for the division two and three teams, as they launch into a push to go up to the next level. Lower grades will cater for newcomers and those who want to just enjoy a social game of baseball.
Junior pre-season training begins on Sunday, August 30, from 10am until midday, which is when seniors will switch to 11am to 1pm. The club caters for age groups from tee-ball, through under 9s to under 17s.
Two ‘Come-and-Try’ days will be held on September 13 and 27, with all training to be held at Karbeethan Reserve.
A winter junior baseball/tee-ball academy, made for beginners through to experienced players, will be held at Karbeethan Reserve from this Saturday, August 1.
It will run for eight weeks, from 10am each Saturday. For further details contact Kerry on 0427 662 741.
