Barossa battles its way past Athelstone

THROUGH misty rain and the blinding sun, the Barossa United men’s team got its third home win on Sunday against Athelstone.

Barossa started the game dominating possession of the ball, but was unable to get it into the net.

Athelstone kicked the first goal for the game, leaving Barossa to lift its effort.

Joel Halman’s ball defence was unbeatable, giving his opponents a run for their money, and he did it with ease.

Barossa couldn’t let the opposition have the only goal in the first half, and James Ruwoldt brought the score to 1-1 not long before the half-time whistle.

The United boys went back out for the second half to give it their all.

Adrian Walker was always there to defend goalkeeper Jacob Cannon, taking some of the pressure off.

Cameron Gliese played a great game, having an excellent run with the ball, outpacing and dodging Athelstone’s defenders, but couldn’t quite get it past their goalkeeper.

It was a great second half to watch, as both teams were evenly matched, until Alexander Worrell came through and put the ball in the net.

With not much time left, Barossa was not about to let its lead slip, and its defence went into overdrive, until referee Rikki Lambert blew the whistle, ending the game at 2-1.
