BAROSSA District shot back up to the top of the Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball table with a 16-goal win over South Gawler on Saturday.
The Bulldogs got off to a flier, and led by five goals at the first break.
Katrina Frederick’s side continued to punish the Lions as the game progressed, extending the lead to 10 at half-time and 15 at three-quarter-time.
The Bulldogs took their foot off the gas in the last, but it was more than enough to seal the win.
Post-game, Frederick was delighted with the victory after initially expecting a closer contest.
“We went into it thinking it’d be quite a tussle, and we were a few players down through sickness,” she said.
“At the end of the day, we came home with the win.”
Frederick summed up the performance as a “whole team effort”.
“Lisa (Wilson) and Shannon (Caire) in our goal circle (were impressive), and our defence was playing really tight,” she said.
“I think all of them played well, the mid-court moved the ball quickly.”
The Lions will face Gawler Central this weekend, while the Bulldogs host struggling Tanunda at Williamstown Oval.
“This game will give us an opportunity to use some of our younger sides from our inter girls,” Frederick said.
“We’ve managed to use a couple so far, so this week we’ll give a chance to our inter girls for a quarter or two, and just work on a few things that we’ve been doing at training.”

Meanwhile, Angaston accounted for Tanunda by seven goals in a low-scoring contest.
The loss was the Magpies’ closest result of the season, while it’s the Panthers’ third win of the year.
Angaston will take on Nuriootpa this week.
Nuriootpa now sits just one game outside of the top four after it beat Willaston by four goals on Saturday.
The Tigers, who have been the surprise packet of the year, could be equal with Gawler Central in fourth place if results go their way this weekend.
Finally, Gawler Central thrashed Freeling by 53 goals.
The struggling Redlegs’ task doesn’t get any easier, as they face unbeaten Kapunda this week.
