THE Gawler Town Band will be performing its second major concert of the year this weekend, showcasing a ‘round the world adventure’ on Saturday night.

Starting from 7pm at Saint Brigid’s Catholic School on Para Road, Evanston, the ‘World Tour’ concert will feature music from across the globe that will have audiences dancing in their seats.

Band director Conor Roche said the event promises to be a fun night for people of all ages.

“It will be a very entertaining evening – there’ll be singing and dancing from the audience and the performers,” he said.

“The audience should expect some crowd interaction and some very funny moments.

“If everyone makes sure to come along with an open mind, ready to sing and dance, then I reckon they’ll all get a kick out of the evening.”

Established in 1860, the Gawler Town Band regularly performs in Gawler and the surrounding areas, often playing for festivals, anniversaries, services and other community functions.

The band also provides the bugler and ensemble for the Gawler Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services each year, and accompanies the Adelaide Colonial Dancers’ annual ball.

They are annual performers at the Gawler Australia Day breakfast, Relay for Life and Gawler Show.

“We’ve got the Village Fair in November and then the Gawler Carols, which are one of our highlights of the year,” Mr Roche said.

“We love to support local and state artists, and try to have an engagement almost every month, or as much as we can.”

The concert band features woodwind instruments and a cello, as well as traditional horns.

There are many talented artists and multi-instrumentalists from Gawler, but the band also sees members travel from as far as Tea Tree Gully, Bolivar and the Barossa.

There’s currently 30 members, however Mr Roche said there is no limit on the number of members in the band.

“The band is definitely growing in popularity,” he said.

“We’re always welcoming new people and we had a member join just last Monday.

“Anyone interested in joining can visit the Anglican Church Hall on Cowan Street where we rehearse on Monday evenings.”
