THURSDAY of Melbourne Cup week – tomorrow – is known as ‘Ladies’ Day’ with the running of the Group One VRC Oaks at Flemington.
In South Australia, the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club celebrates the day with a race meeting at Gawler where women are invited to attend, dressed to impress.
Now, Gawler harness racing trainer Aaron Bain is this week launching a special Ladies Club to join in the festivities.
Bain, through his Aaron Bain Racing, has successfully created the ABR 100 Club and the ABR 100 Club 2.0 where new owners have been able to get involved for an affordable price, and have enjoyed wins with the Suresoundslikealie and Bottle Rock.
Now, under a similar format, he has formed the Ladies Club, partnering with South Australia’s champion female reinswoman Danielle Hill.
Bain said he is excited about giving women a chance to become successful harness racing owners and experience the thrill of wins.
“The ABR 100 Club and 100 Club 2.0 both were filled very quickly,” Bain said.
“What they did was introduce about 200 new people, plus their family and friends, to harness racing and the thrill of racing a horse.
“Now, with the involvement of the state’s most successful driver Dani Hill, we would like to start the Ladies Club.
“The format is the same where a prospective owner pays a $100 one-off fee with no further costs, and being a Ladies Club, I will look to source a filly or mare, ready to race, and Dani will be our driver.
“There will no training fees and the club will collect 50 percent of any prizemoney won which will be distributed at the end of her career.”
Bain said there would be social gatherings along with regular updates from Aaron Bain Racing and Dani Hill.
Hill has three times equaled the Australian record of six winners at a single meeting and has been South Australia’s leading driver for the past five seasons.
