Back to the Barossa

THE Barossa is welcoming visitors back to the region following the easing of some COVID-19-related restrictions in South Australia, on Monday.

As part of the State Government’s ‘road map’, released on Friday, campgrounds and caravan parks are now permitted to reopen, intrastate travel is encouraged, and outdoor food dining is allowed for a maximum of 10 people.

Tourism Barossa regional tourism manager Cathy Wills said she is thrilled Premier Steven Marshall has indicated an easing of restrictions across SA and, in particular, is encouraging visitation to the state’s regions, including the Barossa.

“I think businesses across the Barossa will welcome this road map the premier has laid-out and very much look forward to welcoming guests back, as an increasing number of businesses are able to open their doors to the public,” she said.

Tourism Barossa has recently launched several marketing campaigns to encourage tourists to return to the area, including its ‘My Barossa Day’, and ‘The Barossa Just Got Closer (again)’ campaigns.

According to the State Government’s road map, seated dining for a maximum of 20 people, will be permitted from June 8, while a date is yet to be set for the re-opening of licenced pubs and bars for the purpose of non-food sales.

Cellar doors and wineries have been closed for wine tastings and dining since late March, after a cluster of COVID-19 cases were linked to two tourist groups visiting the Barossa Valley.

Wineries and cellar doors are only permitted to supply food and drinks for takeaway, to be consumed off the premises.

Alcohol is still not permitted to be served or consumed at restaurants or cafes.
