Back to swim – pool, fitness classes resume
1 min read

GAWLER’s Lyn Lillecrapp is happy to be back in the pool following the further easing of restrictions brought about because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ms Lillecrapp relies on swimming to maintain her strength and mobility, and has recently returned to doing laps at STARplex five days a week.
“I rely very much on my upper body for my daily functionality, so to be out of the water – which is how I get my strength – for eight weeks, my arm strength was going down,” she said.
“I tried to keep it up by going for long pushes around the area, but it’s just not the same as getting that strength from swimming.
“The day we came back I burst into tears; I was so happy to be back.”
Sport and recreation hub STARplex has been progressively reintroducing some of its activities and programs in line with the State Government’s lifting of restrictions.
Management was able to reopen the STARplex Fitness Centre for outdoor group fitness classes, and lap and hydrotherapy swimming mid-May, while indoor group fitness and aqua classes returned at the start of the month.
From Monday the requirement to book for most activities will have ceased
Fitness member Lucy said it had been fantastic to return to the gym.
“I feel so much more motivated working out surrounded by other people, the music is louder and so much more energy in a class – rather than on your own at home,” she said.
“I was nervous about returning back into the community, due to working in aged care and obviously with the seriousness of the pandemic, however, everyone is very vigilant wiping down their equipment.”
Swim school will be returning from Monday with a special school holiday program, and then with regular lessons from the start of the new school term.
