TRINITY Old Scholars’ Adelaide Turf Cricket Association A-grade season ended in a whimper as it was mauled by a Pooraka side unlucky to just miss out on finals.
Defending 121, the TOSers offered little resistance as Jye Bailey (87) and Mark Hanson (84) piled on the runs, with Jason Nuske (59) also chipping in as the visitors raced to 6/285 in 51 overs.
Needing an outright win to jump into fourth-place, Pooraka may have spent too much time at the crease, but a steady second innings from Trinity snuffed out all hope as it batted well for 45 overs to reach 1/102 behind Ben Woods (49 not-out) and Daniel Elvin (36 not-out).
In the B1 competition, Trinity comfortably chased down Walkerville’s 95 total to finish the season in second place, with the side set to fantasise about what could have been in the finals as the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association cancelled its finals due to coronavirus concerns.
Openers Matthew Bailey (42) and Nathan Lee (40) made it look easy as they almost chased the target down themselves, before the TOSers declared up 31 runs to chase an outright win.
It wasn’t meant to be as the hosts batted far more effectively the second time around, making 170 despite only fielding nine batsmen.
Needing to defend 9/166 to hold onto the fourth-place, Trinity came up short at Grange Oval.
The first three home batsmen out of the shed combined for 157 runs as Grange won by eight wickets in just 23 overs, allowing the Adelaide Warriors to steal fourth with its win over Hope Valley
