LOCAL artist Lee Teusner will be one of only five South Australians to feature in an international television series Colour in Your Life, set to film on Monday at her Gawler studio.

The Tanunda resident opened an art studio on Murray Street 18 months ago and has since used the space to host workshops and exhibit her work, and pieces from other artists.

Colour in Your Life is a 24-minute documentary featuring individual artists in their studios and airs on stations in over 50 countries and six continents.

Ms Teusner hoped the show would showcase Gawler’s art scene.

“It’s the first time this film crew has been to Gawler,” she said.

“On the show I would like to promote the gallery and what it can offer the community and to invite other artists to come and exhibit or host their own workshops.

“I’m also hoping to get the word out about my own workshops and commissions.

“This show could help bring more people to Gawler to see what art is here.

“It’s also about artists getting together and supporting each other.”
Inspired by exploring the “realm of the feminine”, Ms Teusner encourages others to paint their “inner diva”.

“Painting divas is a big part of what I do and I think it is really important for women to be empowered,” she said.

“There’s a little part of all of us in the paintings and more and more I’m finding the paintings actually take on the personality of the artist.”

While excited about Monday’s filming, Ms Teusner said the opportunity felt bittersweet when so many had been handed a blow of “unimaginable turmoil” due to Australia’s devastating bushfires.

“To help in a small way, I have opened up some special offers and will donate five per cent of any workshop or art sales until February 28 to the Red Cross Australian Emergency Bushfire Relief and Recovery programs,” she said.
