THIS weekend will mark the fourth art exhibition held at the Hillier Park Residential Village, with artwork from residents on display.

Taking place over Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, two separate exhibitions will feature work by students of Glenda Gorton’s art class.

Ms Gorton will also be holding a new, solo exhibition at her gallery at 250 Hebe Avenue titled ‘Flowers and Trees’.

Saturday’s exhibition will see more traditional art displayed, while the Hillier Park Art Group will showcase more modern and abstract works on Sunday.

This year’s exhibition will look a little different to previous years, with social distancing protocols in place.

However, this will offer a unique opportunity to do live artwork demonstrations, with each artist stationed on their own table.

Ms Gorton has run an art class at the village for four years, teaching residents the skills and techniques she has picked up through her experiences in Australia and abroad.

Lynn Howard has been under the tutelage of Ms Gorton for close to two years, after painting on and off for more than 20 years.

She now has her own home studio where she paints modern art.

Previously she had only ever painted watercolour and traditional styles, but has branched out to using acrylic paint.

Beth Skuce is a new addition to the class after joining this year and has learnt a lot in just a few months.

“I like designs because I used to work for Johnson’s Fabrics and it was all about colour and design,” she said.

“She’s showed me a lot of fundamental things, all things to mix and how to use your paints so I have learnt a lot in just a few months.”

Paintings on display will be available for purchase, with a percentage of the sales going back into the village’s social committee.

The exhibitions will be open to everyone and free to attend, beginning at 10am and finishing at 4pm.
