APC seeks further input on median strip
1 min read

ADELAIDE Plains Council will hold a second round of public consultation on its multi-million dollar Two Wells Main Street Upgrade plans, after a backlash from local businesses over a proposed median strip.

At their ordinary meeting last month, elected members endorsed beginning the first stage of the revamp, which is set to be completed before the end of the year.

The plans were released to the public for comment in early-May, but were met with criticism by locals, mainly over the proposed installation of a landscaped median strip along the main street.

As a result, the council elected to hold a further round of public consultation the later stages of the project in the future.

The proposed median strip remains in the project’s plans, but further investigations and the second round of public consultation will decide its fate.

Councillor Marcus Strudwicke said although the median strip saw resistance, council should not rule it out of the overall project.

“I don’t think that we can rule it out,” he said. “While there was people objecting to the median strip, there was some people who supported the median strip.

“If you are going to consult, you don’t do it based on the decision that you’re already not going to do it. We do need to be open.”

Councillor Brian Parker spoke out against installing a median strip saying Two Wells residents wanted to avoid becoming “another Murray Street”.

“I have no problems voting for it (the entire Two Wells Main Street Upgrade plan) as long as the median strip is out of it as it is a major (point of) opposition for those people who use it,” he said.

“For anyone that drives down Murray Street (Gawler), it is a dog’s breakfast. I don’t want that for Two Wells, the residents don’t want that for Two Wells and I think they should be listened to.
