ANGASTON wrapped up another Barossa & Light Bowling Association Saturday division one minor premiership with a 50-shot win over wooden-spooners Eudunda, but not without a rain delay to build the
anticipation.
The top performing rink of the day was the Angaston four of Bruce Field, Kate Argent-Bowden, Ian Elsworthy and Liam Buckley, taking their rink 42-19 in a high-scoring 124-74 affair.
Nuriootpa played a much tighter game at Freeling to secure third-place, winning 100-90 after splitting the rinks 2-2.
It was the Tiger crew of Albert Wilkinson, Aaron Jones, Geoffrey Langley and Jim Barr that dragged their team over the line, winning the rink 36-17.
The closest game of the round went to fifth-placed Tanunda, beating fourth-placed Kapunda 97-95 to finish just a half-game out of the finals
picture.
Kapunda was in a terrific position to claim a win after Ian Otterspoor’s crew pulled out a 10-32 frame, but two comfortable rinks to the Magpies bridged the gap to steal the points.
In division 2a, Angaston produced a statement-making home win against second-placed Tanunda to secure the minor premiership with a score of 112-34.
All three Angaston rinks scored at least 34 shots, led by the four of Mavis Elsworthy, Ian Langley, John Standish and David Wilson (43-8).
Kapunda and Nurioopta round out the top-four, losing to Freeling 63-68 and beating Lyndoch 75-62 respectively in their last games of the minor
rounds.
Making it three-for-three, Angaston claimed the division 2b minor premiership by a single point, beating Freeling 73-63 and taking the two rinks required to fight off Nuriootpa.
Nuri finished second, but played spoiler with a 84-43 win against a Kapunda side which would have finished on top with a positive result.
Angaston was unable to make it four-for-four as it finished second in division three, with Tanunda getting the job done against Eudunda to both win the minor premiership, and deny Eudunda a spot in the top-four as it failed to win the single rink it required.
