A PRINCIPAL has been chosen to lead the future Angle Vale birth to year 12 school, currently under construction and due to open Term 1, 2022.

Joe Priolo, current principal of Salisbury East High School, will officially begin in his new role next month.

Some of his first tasks will be appointing a leadership team and teaching body for the school, overseeing the student enrolment process, as well as consulting the community on a school name.

Mr Priolo said he is sad to be leaving his current role, which he has held for almost five years, but excited for the opportunity to be involved in the development of a brand new school.

“This is a really unique and exciting opportunity that not too many principals get to experience,” he said.

“We haven’t had that many new schools built in the past 20 years, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

The new Angle Vale ‘super school’ began construction in May off of Riverbanks Road and will cater for up to 1675 students.

“You can’t help but be excited about the amazing, world-class facilities that students are going be able to learn in,” Mr Priolo said.

“I’m really excited about building a really strong, driven, passionate leadership team where we all have the same moral purpose around excellence and equity in education for our young people, and building a fantastic teacher and support team.

“They are really going to be the key drivers for success at this school.”

Mr Priolo grew up in the northern suburbs and attended Salisbury East High School as a student.

His previous roles have included senior leadership positions at Mark Oliphant College and Smithfield Plains High School, and deputy principal at Gawler and District College B-12.

Education minister John Gardner said Mr Priolo’s passion for building a culture of excellence and equity in education, as well as community connection, will put the new Angle Vale school in great hands.
