ANGLE Vale put an end to its three-game
losing skid on the weekend with a four-goal
win at Virginia in Adelaide Plains Football
League action, responding to a loss against
Hamley Bridge last week by beating the
Rams 10.15 (75) to 7.9 (51).
Angle Vale’s Dylan McIver carried the bulk
of the scoring load for the Owls, kicking six
goals, while league-leading goalkicker Robert
Kovacic added three to bring his tally to 45
for the year.
Virginia full forward Brendon Niklaus returned
to the line-up with four goals, but it
wasn’t enough as the Rams blew an opportunity
to jump into the top-four after a mediocre
start to the season.
Hamley Bridge made it back-to-back wins
for the first time since winning the 2014 qualifying
final and grand final, beating United
13.16 (94) to 8.6 (54).
Zac McCabe kicked five goals for the
Bombers as best-on-ground along with teammate
Saul Morelli, while star recruit John
Butcher kicked three in front of the home fans.
Jamie Williams kicked five goals for the Tigers,
Heath Pym and Chad Baker also having
strong games in a losing effort.
Hummocks Watchman lost on the road at
Two Wells, but produced one of the Eagles’
best showing of the year to push the Roosters
all the way, ultimately going down 14.15 (99)
to 11.7 (73).
The Eagles led 3.3 (21) to 4.3 (27) at quarter
time, but struggled to hit the scoreboard in the
second and third quarters to trail by 29 heading
into the final quarter.
Luke Barnett was named best-on-ground,
with Ned Seccafien leading the forward line
by kicking three goals.
Ethan Kwaterski was the visitors’ best,
kicking three majors.
Mallala made light work of visiting Balaklava,
running up a big 23.10 (148) to 6.1
(37) home win behind eight goals from Angus
Bruggemann.
The Magpies led 9.3 (57) to 0.0 at quarter
time, while Chad Norsworthy fought hard for
the visitors to bag three goals with very limited
supply.
Toby Maughan and Trey Mason kicked a
pair of goals each and were named Mallala’s
best along with Bruggemann.
In senior colts, Two Wells solidified its spot
in the top-four with a 12.13 (85) to 2.6 (18)
win against Hummocks Watchman.
Jackson Bond kicked four goals for the
Roosters to lead the way, with Blake Harris
and Kaidyn Silvy snagging three each.
Rodney Wilmhurst was named best-onground,
while for the Eagles Nathaniel Ottens
was recognised as the top performer.
Hamley Bridge snagged its first senior colts
win of the year against United, winning 16.12
(108) to 6.5 (41).
Kane Jensen kicked a bag of five to lift the
Bombers, while the Mullan brothers – Jayden
and Zachery – were named best-on-ground.
Angle Vale took advantage of some incredibly
wayward Virginia finishing to win the
first-versus-second clash and claim top spot
on the ladder.
The Owls were in control the entire game,
heading into three-quarter time leading 6.6
(42) to 1.6 (12), before finishing the job to win
8.7 (55) to 1.10 (16).
Jordan Campbell was the only player to
kick multiple goals, finishing with four, while
Angle Vale’s Jai Bunker was best-on-ground.
Five goals from Ryder Mead and four from
Jacob Pratt guided Mallala to a comfortable
16.13 (109) to 1.1 (7) win over Balaklava.
Riley Hannaford kicked the visitors’ only
goal in a tough outing.
In junior colts, Angle Vale stayed undefeated
against Virginia thanks to four goals
from Shaquan Davey, Hamley Bridge stayed
in touch with the top-four with a strong win
against United, three goals from Lachlan Sochacki
helped Two Wells to a 48-0 shutout of
fellow top-four side Hummocks Watchman,
and Riley Hannaford also kicked Balaklava’s
only goal in a big loss to Mallala.
