Andrews replaces Laird as coach
1 min read

CENTRAL District Football Club (CDFC) has appointed Victorian Jeff Andrews as its new senior coach after the departure of long-term mentor Roy Laird this season.
Andrews spent the last two seasons as an assistant at the Werribee Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), where he coached under former Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams in 2019.
He has also spent time at VFL side Preston, and with Victorian U18 league TAC Cup side Calder Cannons as an assistant.
Notably, he led Riddell Football League club Macedon to a premiership in his third
year as a senior coach, taking the team from 10th to first and breaking a 41-year premiership drought.
Andrews said he is looking forward to moving to Adelaide with his wife.
“I love the professionalism of coaching at a State League Club and the challenge of facing teams with AFL-listed players,” he said.
Andrews will be tasked with following in the footsteps of seven-time premiership coach Laird, who spent 13 years at Elizabeth.
He will also take the reins of a Central team that struggled throughout 2019, winning only five games en route to an eighth-placed finish.
CDFC president David Cavenett said he was pleased to welcome Andrews as the club’s new coach.
“Jeff’s energy, preparation and attention to detail was clearly evident during the interview process and has left us in no doubt that he is prepared and ready to lead this football club back into contention,” he said.
“We welcome Jeff and his wife Cathy to the CDFC and look forward to assisting Jeff in getting this club back to finals football.”
