AIR Force pilot and veteran flying instructor from No. 92 Wing, Squadron Leader Greg Toft, recently captained his final flight in a P-8A Poseidon at RAAF Base Edinburgh.

The flight concluded a distinguished service career after logging more than 11,600 RAAF flying hours.

Joining him on his milestone flight, Officer Commanding No. 92 Wing Group Captain John Grime said Squadron Leader Toft’s contribution had a meaningful impact on today’s Air Force.

“Squadron Leader Toft’s students include Air Commodore Darren Goldie and many more RAAF pilots, including most No. 92 Wing pilots over the last two or more decades,” he said.

“From a 92 Wing and Surveillance and Response Group point of view, there would be few pilots that have achieved as much technical and combat mastery in their careers.”

Serving for more than 35 years, Squadron Leader Toft’s journey started on a pilot’s course after joining the RAAF on June 12, 1984, where he trained alongside a number of today’s veteran aircrew.

Since obtaining his pilot wings on June 13, 1985, Squadron Leader Toft has always held a flying category role – a significant achievement in the pilot community.

He has served across all units within No. 92 Wing and flown multiple aircraft across the RAAF fleet.

“After many years of working and flying with Squadron Leader Toft, it was an honour and a privilege to co-pilot his final flight,” Group Captain Grime said.

“I would like to extend my best wishes to Squadron Leader Toft and his family as he embarks on his next mission - supporting the sustainment of the P-8A Poseidon in a civilian capacity.

“Air Force is also extremely fortunate to be retaining Squadron Leader Toft’s extensive knowledge and skillsets as he will transition to the Air Force Reserves – continuing to serve in between his civilian employment commitments.”
