Adventure awaits at Angaston
1 min read

A $2.5 million redevelopment of the Angaston Rail Station precinct has seen the area transformed into an adventure play space for all ages.

The Barossa Adventure Station is being launched in time for the school holidays and features a one kilometre mountain bike trail, zip-line, accessible trampolines, bespoke tower and slide, skate ramps, bouldering wall, half-court basketball, sensory sound forest poles and picnic spaces.

Barossa Mayor Bim Lange said council is absolutely thrilled to be launching the facility, which forms part of ‘The Big Project’ 50-year infrastructure roadmap for the region.

“Council is so appreciative of the community groups which have been instrumental in the planning and execution of this project, and is also very grateful to the State Government which contributed $1.1 million dollars toward the project,” he said.

The Barossa Adventure Station incorporates the restoration of the original rail turntable, crane and 1910 station building – an element that was physically jacked up to reconstruct the platform, along with a full roof restoration thanks, in part, to a $20,000 Heritage SA grant.

It is hoped the refurbished building will attract a retail or hospitality tenant in the near future to complement the long term view to have the station space include community events and markets.

Planning minister and local Member for Schubert Stephan Knoll said he welcomes the latest addition to Barossa’s tourism offering.

“As the local MP and a parent of two young, adventurous girls, I am so excited by the experiences the Barossa Adventure Station brings to our back door,” he said.

“I think it’s fantastic that the station offers a genuinely challenging play space for our kids and adults alike.

“This is a great new precinct and open space for Angaston and the wider Barossa, and will help to encourage families to stay and play in our beautiful region.”

The Barossa Adventure Station is located off of Washington Street and opens to the public from this Saturday, July 4.

Users are asked to implement social distancing, practice good hand hygiene practice, and remain home if unwell.
