ANOTHER week, another pair of wins for Angaston and Lyndoch in Barossa & Light Bowling Association’s Saturday division one competition, with the two sides pulling away from the rest of the field in recent weeks.
Angaston travelled to Tanunda to claim a 93-74 win, taking three of the four rinks on offer as Tanunda’s Andrew Swain was able to salvage a 17-25 frame for two consolation points.
Lyndoch was the big winner for the weekend, trouncing third-placed Nuriootpa 121-71 despite losing a rink by double digits, courtesy of Nuri’s four of Albert Wilkinson, Aaron Jones, Geoffrey Langley and Jim Barr (10-up).
The remaining three frames were a testament to the standard of this Lyndoch side, with Darren Green’s crew winning 39-10, Matthew Jones’ winning 34-16, and Harry Sykes’ four finishing 26-13 up.
Eudunda was handed its 12th loss of its winless season by Freeling 65-98, despite only playing one poor rink.
Eudunda was able to tie the rink skippered by Tait Rogers 17-17, and win Chris Jones’ frame 20-17, but a 39-10 drubbing by the Freeling four of Michaela Massey, Colin Paddick, Alex Bryan and Nathan Marslen was too much to overcome.
In division 2a, fourth-placed Nuriootpa upset premiership contender Angaston 73-67, despite losing two of match’s three rinks.
The Angaston fours led by Chris Reardon (four-up) and Brian Teakle (eight-up) did their job, but the Tiger crew of Neville Nolan, Pauline Eichner, Colin Baker and Milton Medlow came through in a massive way to win the frame 30-12 and open up a winning margin.
The slip up from Angaston allowed Tanunda to create a gap between itself and the rest of the field, now alone atop the ladder after a 81-60 road win at Kapunda.
The visitors took all three rinks, led by Neil Jaensch’s crew (12-up) in a solid team performance.
In division 2b, Nuriootpa beat Kapunda 71-54 to take top spot in the tightly-bunched division, with four of the five sides separated by one win.
Angaston was the side to relinquish its spot in first after a surprise defeat at the hands of heavy wooden-spoon favourite Freeling 63-73.
In division three, Nuriootpa moved up to second-place, and knocked Lyndoch out of the top-four in the process with a 77-33 win in Lyndoch.
Tanunda held serve well at home to beat Kapunda 79-49 and extend its lead atop the field, while Eudunda took fourth spot after leaving Freeling with a 72-40 result.
