GAWLER Greyhound Racing Club returned to racing on Friday after a hiatus due to a bout of canine-gastro that saw a number of kennels around the country being quarantined for a period
of time.
Friday’s weather was an improvement from the rest of the week with a few light showers during the afternoon, before local trainer Neil Mann made a statement with a strong run from Winsome
Dylan in race seven over the 400 meter distance.
Meek and Mild jumped well out of box one to take the lead ahead of the field, with Winsome Dylan also coming out well from the wide box eight, and showed that it has a turn of foot by taking the lead down the back straight.
Once in front, he never looked like being touched by the others, and managed to win in a time of 23.3 seconds ahead of Paula Hearnden-trained greyhound Long Gully Terry.
Mann has been involved in the Greyhound Industry for a number of years and is the current president of the Greyhound Owners, Trainers and
Breeders Association (GOTBA). Racing will continue again this Friday, May 8, and it is hoped that the two-race schedule will continue from Tuesday, May 12.
With current COVID-19 restrictions still in place, viewing of the greyhounds has to continue from the comfort of your lounge chair on Sky Racing.
With luck, and easing of restrictions, Gawler Greyhound Racing Club are hopeful to have spectators back in the coming period.
